One Food Package Can Change a Life

Dam Yeup is 60 years old and now lives with her mother and two siblings. They are very old and have no other family. Ms. Dam Yeup received a Saving Life Food Assistance package from the Community Development project in 2021 for her family. During her visit with us, the pastor also preached the gospel, and she was open to accepting Christ at that time.

Elderly people in Cambodia aren’t as open to the Gospel, but through the pastor distributing the food packages and preaching the Gospel, God worked wonders in their lives. Now, she and her family are continuing to go to church and the small group so they can grow tremendously in their Christian life!

Chanthy was encouraged to drop out of school and marry at a young age. Her siblings and most girls in her village married at a young age. Yet, in 2019, when she became a part of the Children at Risk program, she made a strong commitment to study hard and pursue a Bachelor’s Degree for her mother and family.

With schools closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Chanthy was faced with many challenges. Yet, through the donations of her sponsor, she was able to continue studying online having had to pay for extra phone data. Her hard work and persistency paid off with graduating high school with a “B” in 2021! Sadly, her mother passed away 10 days before the state exam and Chanthy was unable to share this great news with her.

Chanthy received a 30% scholarship from her grade to study at Norton University in Phnom Penh! She is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Interior Design. She lives with her relatives and works for them part time to have some income to support herself in the city.

Channan was a hopeless young boy who dropped out of school in grade 6. In order to survive, he came to work in a factory with his older brother in Poipet City. One day, an NLF-Poipet pastor invited Channan to church and allowed him to live in the church building.  He soon accepted Jesus as His Savior and began to grow in Christ.  He wanted to serve in the Kingdom of God and dreamed of becoming a pastor.

The Children at Risk project sponsored him to study the English language for 4 years.  Channan was hardworking and studied his English diligently. Now he can speak English well and is able to use it to minister in his church as an English teacher to young children. He also volunteers as an interpreter when short-term teams visit the church.

Channa is now 23 years old and is a church planter for New Life Fellowship Poipet City and is the home church leader in Pailin City.
